Seminar Requests - You know you wanna see something cool!

#1 Post by cyburai » Mon Jan 15, 2007 6:29 pm

Could be guest speakers, how to do something, a process, you name it...

Staples include Sanitation, Kegging, Yeast, and Hops.

What else?

Anything goes in relation to brewing beer, wine, mead, etc.

FWIW...

1) Years ago we had a label seminar that I thought was interesting. I think Pete and Barry talked about some of their award winning designs. Not sure if they would be willing to talk again or if we have anyone else designing labels.

2) You mentioned rice hulls on Sunday and that reminded me that I'd like to know more about adjuncts; when to use for what effect.

3) Wine making

4) Mead

5) Brewing related podcasts; what's hot and what's good <edit>

i would be happy to talk about lables.
but pete is the real king of making lables
for the beer he brews.

going way back to when we had meetings in
bob's old brewshop, i gave a presentation
on different commercial lables and their history.
if i can find that stuff, i can dust it off and
show-and-tell it again.

I think a mini class on sugars would be cool. I've done some looking around and found many locally and would be willing to help put this together if interested. Many things to learn about how, when and why to use them...IMO

Love them Belgians. Ive almost decided thats all i want to brew anymore. ApA's, IpA's, etc. etc. are so boring. Jarrell and I have used alot of different sugars and syrups in Belgians this past year with great success. I think he can put togther a great class. Not only using them in Belgians but in other styles as well. And When and How to use sugars. Im up for a sugar coated class too!!

I'd like to see a seminar on using technology for brewing.. such as what software(s) is(are) being used for recipe management and label manufacture.

Also a panel on worst tools/products for brewing.
Panel on biggest mistakes/learning opportunities.
Panel for new brewers on how to get started without buying tons of stuff they don't need.

These panels could have maybe 3-4 brewers on them to answer questions from the audience who will listen attentively, of course.

The Unitarian Fellowship has a projector for computers so that we could show stuff on the big screen for all to see. :drunken:

I'd like to know more about how to go about preparing items for contest/judging. How to present and what are the requirements, do's and don't, and maybe a schedule of contest events.

I second this one.

As a newbie, I think it might also be worth while to have a newbie seminar: what are all the things you wish you'd known before you started brewing your first batch entirely on your own? If we did it as a group discussion - suggestions from the those of you who've been brewing forever, and questions from the newbies, and someone (me) took notes, then it might be the start of a "Tips and Tricks" sort of document to give to new members, along with the cool brochure that Xan was working on.

Just a thought.
