Cool. Thanks, Steve.
Wonder if it was stow-away wasps that carried the lager yeast to Europe from Patagonia?

Fun to wonder - you sent me to readin', Jim! That article mentioned oak, others (1, 2, 3) mentioned beech. Both trees have galls, abnormal growths that are high in sugars. Maybe they had to repair water/beer/other barrels and used oak from contemporary Argentina. Then since I had no idea, I asked myself what beech might be used for. First paragraph under "Uses" - "Beech logs are burned to dry the malts used in some German smoked beers, giving the beers their typical flavor." Still don't know specifically how the beech might have been useful to the travelers, but sometimes wood is just wood. (And a cigar is just a cigar....)

Somehow, wasps and/or wood, perhaps other materials and critters, carried an "invasive" species to Bavaria!

Lots of interesting comments concerning BPA content in cans.

So, just drink homebrew!
And, I'll take a chance on an occasional Dale's Pale.

Just one more reason to enjoy an IPA! (Of course, with some of this group's IPAs, it's more like 3 small glasses....)

Pretty bad idea! Any flavor that you get from a dried up Christmas tree is probably from the paint or preservatives that it was treated with. It has a good link to a place to get fresh/frozen spruce tips from Colorado, though, with recipes worth checking out.

Our friend Micah got a good write up in the Pitch about his Mankind Brewing project. He has a kickstarter campaign going on right now. I think it is a very worthy cause!
