LBG sour/buggy/funky Beer Tasting
So who else is interested? I've wanted to have one for quite a while. We have some very talented brewers in the club doing great stuff with bugs. There are great commercial examples available. Two things that come to mind: we would need to collect funds or pledge bottles in advance so we could plan the tastings accordingly, and we would need someone to volunteer to play host so to speak. Let's get some interest drummed up first, then hash out the details when we see how big this thing gets.
The usefulness of opinion is itself matter of opinion.

I am for it, but my bugged beer supply is low which is one reason that I am moving to a larger brewing system to get enough beer to fully age.
Jensen got to try my 6 day old Berliner Weiss yesterday, so it has some time to go also.

No one really knows about bugs since they are a moving target.
Once considered a fault in wine, it hasn't been but about the last fifteen years with the new electronics and interest, that the microbiologists have been trying to isolate them.
Even today, there is still about a two week window that it takes to see if a wine has a bug. There have been new advances it trying to predict a bug that has shortened the window down to about 2 days, but it depends on the sample in the liquid since bugs are so slow growing and what the bug is that the lab is checking for.
Beer with bugs is a really a young adventure in the US. Even people such as Vinnie and Tomme change their formula as the bugs evolve with one bug opening up another avenue for another bug to change the flavor.
Brewers in Belgian, France, Ireland, Britain and Germany knew they had bugs but didn't know where they were coming from. But, since 'God is Good', the brewers kept using the same yeast and bugs to create the same product.
There are about 150 Brett bugs that have been isolated. But that is a short field if one considers the interaction between ale yeast, Brett, Pedio, Oenococcus, Lacto and others. Each bug creating a symbiotic relationship with the other depending on sugars, pH and alcohol, with each bug changing the flavor of the liquid.
It is just a game that we play and see where the bugs take us.
Brew a bug beer and sample it every couple of months and you will taste the moving target
All it, is an open canvas to see what one can create and given time, what it changes into.

Dumped 10 ml of wort into my WLP510 slant so it is on it's way to a Belgian Specialty. Love the final bugged beer!

Want to learn more about it and have a couple of commercial examples to share, but haven't tried to brew one (yet).

I have some 5yr old Brett beer still in secondary (glass carboy with oak dowel). I plan on sampling and see if its still worth adding to the fray.
