Darn Fruit Fly

#1 Post by klickcue » Wed Oct 05, 2011 8:26 pm

So, here I am trying to make some non bugged beers and doing pretty good with 30 gallons of Pale Ale with WLP060.

WLP060 is a pretty nice yeast but it is a blend with lager yeast so it is a little slow to clear but like all yeast brews, it will clear to brilliant if given enough time.

So I decided to pull out at slant of WLP001 from 11/09 on Saturday and start a 25ml starter. The slant took off good and two days later put it a 200 ml starter. It blew though the 1 liter addition so I decide to chill and decant Wednesday night. Made a 2000 ml starter and was cooling.

While waiting on the the wort to cool, a fruit fly slipped under the foil and died in the starter. I bet he was happy for awhile

So, this is what you have all been waiting for, is by beer infected?

Not like I have not made a bugged (wild yeast) beer before

Just trying to make a clean beer, so the story goes.
Have Fun!

Chris
