Heads up on kettle deals

#1 Post by Blktre » Mon Mar 12, 2012 9:25 am

Update International makes some nice products. I just bought the 100qt SS stock pot for $187 shipped. Same thing as a mega pot for those wondering. SS, lid, and a triple layer bottom. There are smaller pots available as well here at KaTom. Same pot that sells for $220 plus at the homebrew stores. This will add a third 100qt kettle to my arsenal. This one will be converted to a MT.

Looks like a nice find. I wonder how the price will stack up once a ball valve, thermometer, and site glass are added. That's my big hurdle. I am looking to get a 15-20 gallon boil kettle in the very near future, but I get bogged down with price of a complete kettle vs. price of a kettle plus price of parts and labor to make it function the same.

Building a kettle vs a complete kettle will always be cheaper. Go check out Austin Homebrew's costs on adding stuff to a mega pot. The pot itself starts out at $240. $15 for a hole cut out? Give me a break. I can buy another tool and cut out as many holes as I want for that price. I will have my MT built for around a total of $200. Parts can be had at McMaster for a weldless for not much cash. I've used the same weldless equipment on my stuff for 8 yrs now with zero issue. Want it welded, Marty will work something out. Im always in a hurry but not that much of a hurry. To many resources in our club to spend that kind of money on a complete kettle. But you know what they say about guys with opinions.... 8)

If you're planing on ordering these items soon, I may see if you want to double everything.

Kettle just arrived. It is the exact same as the Mega Pots being sold for a ton more money. The company was great to work with including excellent communications..... Im pleased with my purchase! Now to rig it out!
