Tallgrass is also offering 4 of their beers in kits at Northern Brewer. Buffalo Sweat stout, Halcyon unfiltered, Velvet Rooster, & Oasis.

That is really freakin cool, except the Halcyon recipe doesn't actually have Halcyon malt. Huh?!

Halcyon:
A floor-malted barley malt from a single barley variety (Halcyon), and produced by a centuries-old, family-owned maltster. Halcyon Pale Ale Malt is considered to be one of the last remaining "traditional" English Pale Malts. Adds a degree of biscuit flavor to the beer. Brighter and lighter in flavor than Pearl, Halcyon is a great malt for the production of Real Ales. It tends to produce a less sweet wort than Maris Otter. All the base malts from Thomas Fawcett & Sons are grown by local, family farmers near the maltings area.

I think Rob has an interesting point, so I looked up the word Halcyon.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/halcyon

1. calm; peaceful; tranquil: halcyon weather.
2. rich; wealthy; prosperous: halcyon times of peace.
3. happy; joyful; carefree: halcyon days of youth.
4. of or pertaining to the halcyon or kingfisher.

Well, there's this story from Greek mythology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcyone, but I generally thought of some variation of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halcion
..."generally only used as a sedative to treat severe insomnia.[3] In addition to the hypnotic properties triazolam possesses, amnesic, anxiolytic, sedative, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant properties are also present."

Had no idea it was a grain!

Spanish fly, mickeys, roofies, ecstasy in recent history... Halcyon was the early "date" drug, back in the day... come to think of it, it still works pretty well today... in the right quantities of course.
