Can you I.D. an O.D.?

I'm thinking about adding a 2nd tap to my kegerator. Northern Brewer has a stainless steel barb tee, K220, that fits 3/16" to 1/4" I.D. tubing; but they are out of stock.
Micromatic has 3/16" and 1/4" stainless steel tees, but the 1/4" is twice the cost of the 3/16"

I use 1/4" I.D. for gas line, 3/16" I.D. for beer line.
If the NB says it covers 3/16" to 1/4", are they being too general or does it not really matter that much as long as you clamp it down tight enough? I use screw clamps because I haven't hand a reason to switch to Oetiker (sp?). If it isn't that big of a deal, I was leaning towards placing my order with micromatic because the shank, nuts, tees, shipping are all in stock and a tad less than NB.
Thoughts?
