I have buckets with gamma seal lids (they create an airtight seal) that I was going to use to store our grain. I am limited on space so I will have to store them in the garage.

I was wondering if it would help to tape a silica packet to the inside of the lid so it would absorb any tiny amount of moisture?

Can anyone see anything wrong with this or a better way to do it?

I don't know about the silica, but I would keep them off of the ground, even if on a pallet.

It'll be fine all winter long in the garage, silica is nice if you have it.

Summer on the other hand is real hard on grain if you garage is gonna get hot, and more importantly humid (your plastic bucket and fancy top are no match to this environment). Best to really try to find an indoor option from jun through Aug (you can be creative in making furniture or some sort of structure with the buckets)-- a garage environment is really too harsh on those tasty little seeds.

I do have a vent in the garage that I could open and cool it, but I would still have to deal with the humidity.

At least I have some time to figure out storage when it is too humid.

My resident mice can't seem to get the lids off the grain buckets no how much they poop on them, but I think they're trying to grow thumbs so they can operate the picnic taps and hold on to pints.
