June Meeting - Bring your Mash Tun!

#1 Post by cyburai » Tue May 29, 2007 11:53 am

Can a those of you that do all grain brewing bring your Mash Tun to the June Meeting?

I think it would be interesting to see the different configurations everyone has.

1. When a once extraordinarily hoppy beer now seems pedestrian.
2. The phenomenon a person has when craving more bitterness in beer.
3. The long-term exposure to extremely hoppy beers; if excessive or prolonged, a habitual dependence on hops will occur.
4. When a "Double IPA" just is not enough

I think it would be interesting to know what efficiencies people are getting with their tun for that type of setup. I know that some people say they have a 7 to 12% increase in their efficiency numbers going from say SS braid to copper/pvcs manifolds with a crap load of holes cut/drilled in the pipe.

I run two 17" SS mesh braids out of a brass T and I usually get mid to high 70's, I've hit in 80's, but it's not constant. I need to tweak my mash process. I've never checked the pH of my water no less my wort, who knows, maybe I could find out that I need to adjust my pH and add some gypsum.

Good idea Sean!
Thanks!
