Jeff -- I'd be willing to split part of my batch with you. I'm mainly doing this for the experience of it all, though I did find the bottle we had at the meeting quite enjoyable (thanks again, Chuck).
How much will each person be getting from 2 10 gallon batches? has anyone done the math?

Lets say we are using 750ml bottles....
There are 3785 ml per gallon. How many 750 ml bottles in 1 gallon?
I get around 5 750 ml bottles in 1 gallon, therfore in a 10g batch there are 50 750 ml bottles..........
We are doing 20g (2 different recipes) So we need 100 750 ml bottles.........
Is this right?

OK...Jeff this leaves me wondering, are you in the closet or out
Now back to the quantity of bottles. lets see... Ya Andy those numbers run about right by me.
Good.......everyone is responsible for their own bottles. But, heres the tricky part when dealing with bottles. 2 things: 1) The bottles need to be able to accept a crown cap, some dont i was told from Drew. 2) The bottle neck needs to be the same for all the bottles so they accept the same size cork. We cannot afford on disengorgment day to find out different bottles use different sized corks. So, what to do about this......thoughts anyone?
Jarrell,
You still interested in building a riddling rack? We will need mutliples so we get the proper amount of holes for the bottles. Or would it be better to use boxes that have seperations and just tilt the bottles during riddling? I must add, the riddling rack would look way cool vs boxes......

Yes I'll still make the rack(s) my thought is that I'll make a rack that each row has the ability to tilt. It would take to much to discribe here so I'll talk to you in person.
On the topic of bottles I say that a dead line for all bottles available needs to be made so that an inspection of uniformity can be made. If some want to order this would give opportunity to organize too.

I agree.......i think i will order my bottles..i hate champagne and buying champagne to get the bottles doesnt settle with me too good.....

Those are not champagne bottles. They are thin glass, and they are not made to withstand the pressure of anything produced in the traditional methode. Champagne bottles must have a punt in the bottom of the bottle. This is a common mistake, that could lead to a lot of dissapointment when bottles start exploding. For the sake of safety, and satisfaction, I strongly suggest we all pitch in and order the same bottles.

I am actually beginning to question myself here. I am almost positive that we will need "real" champagne bottles for this project, but I may be wrong. Andy, any chance you can check with the Falcon boys?

John,
Yessss, we need champagne bottles with the punt and heavier glass neck for the wire cage. Why is NB saying these are champagne bottles and they arent?? The pic actually shows no punt, if thats true, they wont work..
Yea, im leaning towards buying all the same bottles. After talking w/ Jarrell the rack hes gonna build requires the same bottle. So, if somebody cant afford their take of bottles on the bulk buy, then theres enuff interest for that person to be replaced. I hate to sound like a jerk, but consisntency is the name of the game here....But, im confident that wont be the case.....
More thoughts and places to buy bottles........anyone?

Yeah, we definitely need to do a bulk order for these bottles -- solves all our problems (consistancy, functionality, rackability, etc) and that way nobody gets dissappointed. Probably save us all a lot of money in the long run on the bottles too (volume discount).
Cuz Andy, 18 dollars? Is that per case or what?!? Regardless, that's just freakin' crazy talk. Surely there's a better solution.

Wait till you see the riddling rack Jarrell is designing.......projob all the way around and easy and free to build for the most part.......
Matt, that price is for a case of 12........pretty cheap in my mind.
