I have seen refractometers on ebay that a alot less than other places. Does anyone have any advice on the idea of buying a refractometer on ebay?

I bought mine on Ebay. Been happy with it. Post up some links to what you're looking at.

Just make sure its 0-32 brix and ATC.

How often do you use the pH meter? I've never tested my pH and if that thing works well, $20 isn't much to spend on a toy in my opinion (about 4 beers at any brewpub is $20!).

How much was the combined shipping? Combined as shown it would have been $18.96, just curious as to what he charged for both.

I got it to use for when I go AG (soon), so I haven't used it for brewing yet. I bought some calibration buffer solutions and tested/calibrated it and it's ready to go for my first AG. I only plan to measure the pH during my first AG, not try to adjust the water yet.
Unfortunately, you can't just use a few drops like with the refractometer, the probe would have to be submerged in probably an ounce or more. It has automatic temp. compensation, but I don't think sticking it in mash temp water (or higher) would be wise, so cool the sample first.
