Chocolate beer again

#1 Post by Ace » Tue Oct 28, 2008 5:33 pm

Can someone clue me in about how much Hershey's cocoa to add to the boil for a chocolate stout? I'm sure it must be a to taste thing, but I'd like a starting point.

The Bithces Brewery is famous for their Arachnid Chocolate Porter. Aleis Xan and Ellen. Jamil also has a chocolate imperial stout and a cherry chocolate porter. Check out the brewing network jamil archives for the whole scoop.

For a 5-gallon batch, we used 5 ounces of Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder in the last 15 minutes of the boil. That seems to work for us. Good luck! :)

I think the double chocolate stout I did used 16 ounces for a 10 gallon batch. You've tried it, so tell me what you thought :)

I currenltly don't have access to my personal laptop to give you the numbers. It may be in the Forum if you search for it.

don't forget I also had chocolate extract in it.
Thanks!
