Carboy

I've started brewing mead recently in 1 gallon glass jugs, but I'm ready to move up to a larger size. I'm looking for a 5 gallon glass carboy, but I'd rather not pay $30+ bucks for one. Does anyone have a carboy they would sell to me or know of somewhere I can buy one cheaply around Lawrence?

Thanks!

Good luck... I've been keeping my ear out for one for a while. They're not easy to come by!

The Merc has Better bottles (plastic) 5 gallon sizes (don't quote me on this).

The Merc also has 3 gallon glass carboys last time I checked...

If anyone's got more than one glass carboy for sale, hit me up too! I'll take two!

If you make it to Topeka or Kansas City (which I never do!), the brew shops should have some as well.

Yeah, the merc has "better bottles" and glass carboys. I think their 5gal glass ones are ~33 bucks though. So that's my fallback option if I don't find anything else.

A friend of mine just found one at the Social Services League for $10, so I'm pretty jealous of him.

You've seen 5 gallon carboy's at the Merc for $33??? Honestly, I think that's a pretty good deal. I might swing by there and pick one up! I've only seen the 3 gallon carboys there!

That price is just from memory, but I think it's pretty close. I think they might have even had some 6 gallon ones too.

Confirmed. The Merc does have 5 gallon carboys.

They cost $32.99 + tax and include a bung (not drilled). Considering the price of gas to Topeka/Kansas City and the cost to ship one of these, it seems like an extremely fair price.

No 6.5 gallon carboys, although I wrote a suggestion for their comment box that they consider doing so. If you're in the Merc, do please do the same!

Any other home brewing supplies we can suggest that would be handy to have available in Lawrence?

On another note, Westlake Hardware at 23rd & Louisiana has Mr. Beer kit's on managers special for $39.99! What a bargin!
