Free: Spent-grain dog biscuits

I made some spent-grain dog biscuits after brewing last Sunday. They turned out great... my parents' dog absolutely loves them. Problem is that apparently he's on a special diet I didn't know about, so he can't have many of them.

This leaves me with a bunch of doggie treats that I don't need. So I thought I'd share them with the dog-lovers among us.

Here's the ingredients, so you can make sure there's nothing in them you wouldn't want your dog to have. The spent grains have had ABSOLUTELY NO CONTACT WITH HOPS.

Ingredients:
Spent grain made up of Pale Malt 2-row, CaraPils, Crystal 20L and Vienna
White flour
Peanut butter
Egg (very little)

I'll bring them to the meeting to dole out to anyone who wants some. Please bring a zip-lock or something to take them home in. They were cheap to make, so I'm not asking for any money, but donations will be accepted (especially if you'd like me to make more in the future, which I'm happy to do).

Thanks!
Matt

Bring some out for the barrel brew. My outdoors dogs will tear them up.

Sorry guys, that would have been a great idea, but they're all gone. Good lookin' out though.

Missed you at the meeting last night Andy. Hope you had a very uneventful shift.

See you both Saturday.

Matt

SPENT GRAIN DOG BISCUITS

Note that hops can be toxic to dogs. Do not use grains that have seen hops.

4 cups spent grain
4 cups flour
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg

Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Press down into a dense layer on a large cookie sheet. Score almost all the way through into the shapes you want, or use a cookie cutter as you would for cookies. They don't spread out and they pretty much end up the thickness you start with. This recipe made one cookie sheet but they are pretty thick so you could adjust that if you want them thinner. Bake for about half an hour at 350 F to solidify them. Loosen them from the sheet, break the biscuits apart and return them, loosely spread out on the cookie sheet, to the oven at 225 F for 8 to 10 hours to dry them very thoroughly to prevent mold growth. They end up very crisp after they've been baked and dried. Store in an airtight container to keep them dry and mold-free.

You can also substitute pizza sauce for the peanut butter, or a bit of garlic oil. Just don't make it too wet.
Someone on the forum posted this awhile back.

Thanks for posting that for me Chris. That is indeed the same recipe I used. I dunno about using sauce or olive oil though. Dogs definitely love the peanut butter ones though.

@Jensen: I wasn't really looking to make any money, just cover some expenses since I couldn't use them. Happy to make more in the future if Toby would be interested. You brew a lot more frequently than I do though. :(
