Saw this as I wondered through the world wide web looking for neat things and found this.

I have an uncut sanke keg and have wanted something to do with it, primary or bright/serving tank.
hmmm...

the only issue would be cleaning the keg after if you do not have a keg cleaner...that is a mighty small hole.

I secondary in Sankey's, no mods necessary, just remove the spear after the pressure has been released and cap with a size 11.5 stopper or large universal stopper. The way I see it, I have an inexpensive, large container that is airtight and impervious to light for secondary aging. I rack crystal clear beer out of it every single time and cleanup is a snap with my keg washer.

Here is a picture of the fermenter I built a while back. The keg has a 10 inch hole cut in the top and lid's are from kegs I cut a 12 inch hole when making keggles.
In this picture I was checking seal with a pressure gauge, for normal use an air lock is used. Easy to clean.
Just another way to turn the tap.

Hate to hijack anyone's thread, but since we're on the subject of welding and making fermenters of kegs, this might be considered relevant...
I've got a 7.75gal and a 5-gal sanke keg that I wouldn't mind doing something like that with to use as secondaries or for long-term aging, but I don't have a keg washer (yet), so I haven't yet popped the ball on them. Cutting the tops was always a consideration, but then I'd need some sort of airtight lid. Clamping something on like the picture above hadn't really occurred to me and would be doable with some decent speed clamps. I did figure that you could just pop the ball on them and use them as is, with the right lid, but that was before I'd seen the keg washers some of you have, so I didn't think I'd be able to clean it well enough after use. I'd love to hear more about keg washers from those that have them.
If you had a 7.75gallon and 5gallon stainless steel kettle, what would you do with them? The 7.75 isn't quite big enough diameter to be the tank for a keg cleaning system, sadly. Or I'd have done that. Any other thoughts?

I built something similar. Didn't cost me this much tho. Id rather use it for secondaries. Not big enough for primary for 20+g batches....I may have Swag build me a second one. Well see. I'm in the process of figuring out how to handle these larger volumes for bulk primary and secondary.
