I hope as home brewers we can make beer that is good or better than what we can find in the LQS. I think the hope is actually a reality. It is being done by many in this club and elsewhere. Of course we all make a sub par or undrinkable batch every now and again. Its the nature of the business, I mean hobby. Which brings me to whats on my mind. As a business, lets take a professional brewery (micro, macro, respected, what have ya) quality assurance is a given. At least it should be if the business is expected to be successful. Reputation follows one around ya know. So, WTF was Oskar Blues thinking when they released GUBNA?

The beer sounds intriguing from a reputable brewery. Pop the can, pour a pint at proper temps. Aroma seems exciting while wondering what a 10% ABV IIpA will taste like from one of your favorite breweries. Anticipation is killing me. Take a nice pull and......the worst thing imaginable happens. Something worse than bitter beer face. Instant beer spray. This beer can only be described as one thing. Down right nasty. Maybe this is a beer for the dark side. A beer for the vampires. A beer to kill a whole clan of vampires in a single quaff! I love garlic as much as the next guy. But as a home brewer, there is no way in hell id serve this beer to my enemy. I care about my rep. to much. OB>GUBNA>FAIL! Pull your head out of your ass Longmont.

Thanks Jim for the memories....

No worries Jason. I haven't said that about very many beers.

LQS= Liqueur Store.

Yeah, Andy, I too have tasted the garlic-grassiness of da Gubna.

Now, tell us what you *really* think. :)

A sip was all I needed. Does this beer taste good to anyone? A beer of distinction, yes. A beer of merit or craft... or lets just shove a kitchen sink full shit in a big ass pale and call it a IIPA.

I like summit. A beer with only summit is inherently flawed however.

I've read that used early for bittering the O/G flavors boil off, and that used at knock out, or for dry hopping it has some admirable qualities. But, using it late in the boil is the problem. Whatever, the beer is not a pleasant experience for me. However, I think some people react differently to different flavors (I've heard some beer fans are not that fond of IPA's :o ). At any rate, I saw several people ordered multiple pints of 'da gub while we sat in the Tasty Weasel. I have two more cans if anyone is interested?
