Funk?

I read articles on other forums about people's brews that are off target with their yeast or fermentation. They declare that the fermentation must have been OK since since they cannot taste any funk?
Now to me, funk is an open ended word, what does it really mean? In the short, the process that a brewer goes though, that is 2 weeks. With a good pitch of cultured yeast, can you declare funk or not? I don't think so.
Funk is fairly slow growing unless a fruit fly takes up residence.
What are your thoughts about Funk?
I like Funk and grow media to produce Funk.
