Home Depot Homer Buckets

I just bought some additional HD Homer Buckets today to store my grain. I haven't bought any of these in a quite a while but when I was putting on the lids it appears that they are all about 1/8" to 1/4" too large for the buckets. I verified with some older lids and buckets that I have and the older lids fit on the buckets just fine and the new lids would not fit on the older buckets.

I know of course that they are supposed to fit very snug and that is a good thing, even to the point of being rather difficult to pry off. I'm fine with that so as to keep it mostly airtight. But these are just way too big and no way to get them on the buckets. I tried a rubber mallet and actually ended up damaging one of them.

They have the same name brand and manufacturer as the others I have purchased.

I am just curious if anyone else has had this issue?

Don

Bought three the other day, but I guess I got lucky, because all of my lids fit fine. Takes some doing to get them on and off, but that's because they seal up "leakproof." Good of you to give us all a heads-up though on this so we can make certain we've got the right lids.

I had the same problem, and figured out a trick to make it work.

I bowed the lid outward by setting it upside down on top of the bucket opening, and pressing down in the center of the lid with my knee. Bowing the lid outward seemed to force the inner seal rib (which was interfering with the bucket) to bend inward just enough to fit inside the bucket. Once I had it started on the bucket, I could then press in on the center of the lid to flatten it back out before snapping it down the rest of the way.

That worked for me anyway, and I'm hoping they will bend/relax enough during this initial use that they'll go on easier next time.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a try.
