Looking to buy some carboys, but wanted to get some feedback from the group before I do.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of glass vs plastic or vice versa?

With that being said...is there anyone looking to unload any carboys?

Thanks,

Chris

Glass will last a LIFETIME-- assuming you don't crack or break it. Until you are 70 years old, and are a little worried about lifting something heavy surrounded by glass-- always use Glass!!! My favorite commercial distillery in Oregon, with all cement floors, uses over 300 glass carboys. Be careful, and think zen thoughts about your movements when moving full glass carboys-- and a LIFETIME of enjoyment will be had by your glass carboys.

Eh - I've broken two of them so far. Thankfully neither had beer in them. One fell down a whole flight of stairs. Not fun!. The other I was cleaning in my tub and dropped it because it was wet (i.e. slippery). At least the glass was contained in that one.

Dale Wheeler ferments in stainless steel, which is really cool. Ask him how. Look him up in the memberlist and send him a PM.

Dale - where you've been?! Haven't seen you for awhile
