For your first batch, I would suggest a hoppy pale ale or a stout, assuming you like those styles. The hops in the Pale Ale can be very forgiving for the new brewer. 11.2 oz bottle 9.2% ABV Pours a deep reddish brown. Fairly thick head that dissapated quickly. Intense malt aroma with some carmel/toffee. Big malt flavor, heavy body. Raisin/fig flavors. Great Divide Titan IPA
Not a full fledged review, but I am really enjoying this one lately.
I would put it up there with Bell's Two Hearted as one of the best IPA's available around these parts. It has enough malt to back up the hops, and enough alcohol to . . . well you know the rest!

Bell's Java Stout 12 oz. Bottle 7.5%ABV $8.99/six pack @ Lukas State Line Opaque black with a low tan head Intense coffee aroma with a little chocolate Lots of coffee flavor with some roasted malt A bit of sweetness.
