SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER

Jake Jeffers gave us "7 Minutes of Science". Jake discussed the Hop Storage Index, or HSI, and how it is useful to pro and home brewers. HSI is a measure of alpha and beta acid degradation during storage and processing. Some key factors that can affect the process are oxidation, time and sunlight. It can be more important than age or crop year to hop stability. It isn't necessarily the reason why there is no aroma stability, but is key in quality aroma stability.

You can request information from your hop supplier to determine how stable your hops are, thereby evaluating hops and hop suppliers.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Their is a Pilsner brew at Jarrod's house on Friday, May 16, and there is a Pilsner brew at Jon Keffer's house on Sunday, May 18 at 9 am.
