Swagman does it again

After seeing this link
http://www.brewershardware.com/fermenter.htm I decided to bug our resident metal guru Swagman to build me something similar. I just got the fitting back from him and boy has he delivered. Sorry for the blurry pics, I'm not much of a photographer

Picture of the fitting

Swagman does incredible work, look at those welds!

The metal compression sleeves are removed and replaced by a couple o-rings

Assembled fitting

A sanke fermenter is born!
I'm a pretty happy homebrewer right now. I have to give a million thanks to Swagman, his abilities are remarkable, but his willingness to help others and his genuine attitude is truly inspirational. I've said it before but it's worth repeating, I love this brew community here in Kansas!

everybody

Thanks to Jack I haven't washed a keg the "old fashioned way" in almost a year. One of the reasons why I'm planning to move to the sanke fermenters is because with the keg washer, cleaning is a non-issue. Gotta love it!

WOW!
I was just looking through my old posts looking for the link referenced to see if they are still available. Low and behold now I see Swagman has made one! Excellent!
Now what sort of compensation/begging would it take to get one myself?

Very nice.
I am wondering why you have moved away from those big white plastic fermenters?
I have been meaning to ask about these because when I finally broke one out to use it had a bit of plastic odor inside and even after washing well.

Never had any issues with the big plastic wine barrels. Some had a lingering oxidized wine smell but it faded to almost nothing after putting it on the keg washer and forgetting about it for a while. After a few batches of beer thru them they lost the smell completely. I still do the majority of fermenting in those and I love them, several other members use them without issue. The reason for the change is because I can't buy the plastic ones anymore and replacements are more expensive than scrapped SS sankes. SS has more desirable properties than HDPE, but has drawbacks as well. It all depends on personal preference, if you have any of the plastic fermenters kicking around I'd be more than happy to take em off your hands

Where did the plastic barrels come from and can we do a "bulk" order on them?

They were a one time deal so to speak but the best place to look for bulk is
here. Wouldn't be against it but I've never dealt with them and don't know what sort of deals they would be willing to do.

Our 100 blue barrel dried up too. Im glad i have a bunch of them left for me. Between pressurizable fermentors and grain storage, these things rock!

How big were these and does anyone recall how much they cost?

The blue barrels? 14 gallon and were $15 when Snowman got that huge bulk supply of them.
New, they are $57 if you go to USPlastics (.com). I haven't searched out many other places as I still utilize my carboys when I'm not using Sean's basement as my personal fermentation chamber. Be sure to find out what was in them before you buy them. I got a huge barrel from someone that told me it had food grade oil in it, but when I got it home and took a closer look as the embossed details on the side, it housed chemicals in its past life. No thanks.

I just found another site that has the same barrels for much less.
BayTec Containers. Note the discount for bulk.

Prices are still cheaper at this place, shipping would have to be figured out but I like what I see as far as prices go.
