I just received several pounds of hop pellets from Hops Direct.
Is it just me or does the hop IBUs seem higher from last year's crop?

The pound of Cascade I received in January from Hops Direct was 8.8%. I wonder if they're breeding for higher IBUs?

Should not make a difference, but 8.8% is really high!
I think that it is the drier season and good sun shine across the US last year with heavy Spring rains. The total yield last year was not very good with the contract buyers getting most of the hops this year.
The year before was wet and cloudy and from what I saw, the hop IBUs were in line with the norm.
I wonder what this year will bring with the Spring the warmest in history across the US since record keeping started (I believe the year was 1895).
Thanks for all that replied, just something to keep in the back of your mind
