carapils and Hallertau
Looking for about a pound of carapils, and about a half pound (or more hopefully) of Hallertau whole leaf. Will buy, plead, trade, or, well you know...

Thanks John, Brick just let me know that he has some carapils-- less than 100 yards away, so I will just bug him. Thanks for the offer though.
Still looking for Hallertau if anybody has some.
Brewing a berliner weisse and an alt this Saturday-- any other hop suggestions for these styles?

Perle, tetts, spalter for continental hops - mt hood, crystal, liberty for domestic varietiesJensen wrote: Brewing a berliner weisse and an alt this Saturday-- any other hop suggestions for these styles?

Those are nice, but sometimes they miss some obvious subs. If you look at where domestic varieties are derived, you can find subs that way. Sometimes experience tells you more.Rob Martin wrote:I use these links a lot

Thanks guys. I have narrowed it down to what I have in stock. Perle and Northern Brewer are the two closest I figure. Since Perle is pellet.... Northern Brewer for the Alt, since only 4 ibu for the Berliner Wiese MaYbE the damn pellets....
Re: carapils and Hallertau
Be very careful with those BU's in the BW, after 5 BU's Lacto shuts down and you will not get tartness. Maybe consider mash hopping and no-boil, the way they do it in Deutschland.Jensen wrote:Thanks guys. I have narrowed it down to what I have in stock. Re: carapils and Hallertau
Just pitched the lacto a 80deg f. The OG is 32: the BU 4 (went with the Perle). Have two 61/2 gallon carboys sitting in huge cooler with a heating pad and multiple thermometers. Will maintain between 90-95 for 4-5 days then pitch some 1007 from the Alt beer. Fingers crossed. Thanks for all your input Lee-- you are the Bugman!
