Calculation for use of AB Vickers Breakbright and Foamsol S

#1 Post by Jdl973 » Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:37 pm

AB Vickers Breakbright tabs and Foamsol S work great, but there use is listed in g/bbl and oz/bbl...so I convered them to "drops" and tabs per gallon:
AB Vickers Breakbright
Breakbright Super Tablets contain kappa carrageenan from red seaweed (Irish Moss) and bicarbonate and are a perfect kettle fining solution for breweries and brewpubs with medium to small kettles that do not filter their beer. These tablets can be added directly to the kettle 10 minutes before the end of the boil. Typical usage rate is 3.5 - 6 grams/bbl.

Foamsol S (FCS 130)
Foamsol S silicone antifoam is an inert polymer which is highly effective in foam suppression in both the kettle and your fermenter. Foamsol S preserves foam positive proteins which contribute to the head retention quality of your beer. One of the most important benefits of Foamsol S is the increased iso - α - acid utilization from your precious hops. The effect of controlling foam in your fermenter will retain iso - α - acid and allow a reduction of up to 15% of your kettle hops. Other benefits include increased kettle and fermenter utilization, as well as eliminating the loss of product from foam during fermentation.

Oh, there is a "raging" debate as to what a "drop" means in oz or ml. I used the pharmasutical defination

1 drop = 2.125 ul
1 drop = 0.002125 ml
1 drop = 1/157th fl oz or 0.001736 fl oz

Therefore: 24 drops = 1/4 teaspoon = 0.051 ml = 51 ul

This is of course an approximation, as the actual size of the drop will be dependent on the viscosity and temperature of the solution.
