Silicone tubing, who uses it?

#1 Post by Bill » Tue Dec 04, 2007 12:12 am

Okay, I was thinking of using silicone tubing rather than the usual 1/2" bev tubing I've been using.
Who is using the silicone tubing, and what do you like/dislike about it? Where did you get it? how much?
Thanks!

What silicon tubing are you referring to, and do you have a link to an example?

linky and search for part # 3038K26. It will bring up a PDF of all their silicone hoses.
Thanks!

I am currently using the Mcmaster silicone hose in the 11/16 OD size. It works just fine, The only thing is it bends easy and can kink if too sharp of an angle is present. The flexibilty though keeps the hose from staying kinked or developing a memory like stiffer hoses. This size hose is $2.09 a foot. I am happy with it and plan to keep using it.

Looks to be pretty good for food applicable situations. I wonder if right-angle kinking might be a problem for a lot of brewing situations. The thickest wall diameter for a specific ID is a must!

The tubing that I have been using for the past year is found at this link:

I really like this stuff and highly recommend it. However, it is opaque. Being able to see liquid moving through could be real handy during some operations. Let me know if you get some. I may stop be Brick's to see how his works during a brewing session.

Theres tons of greenboarders that swear by it. They say it will be the last hose you will buy....Stangbat uses the thermoplastic which ive seen/helped brew once and is a tad stiffer but not overly stiff, its cheaper as well....
