Brewer of the Year 2008

#1 Post by cyburai » Thu Jan 03, 2008 12:27 pm

It's that time of year again. Andy; start polishing up the handle to give away in March. ;)

I saw this on another club website and thought it might be a good start for better organizing the process for selecting the BOY Award.
The previous year?s US Brewtopian of the Year Award (USBY) winner will serve as Chair of the Selection Committee for the subsequent year. The Award winner cannot win the Award in successive years.

Nominations for the USBY Award will be accepted beginning with the September meeting. Nominations should be sent to the Selection Committee Chair via email.

The Grand Poobah will also begin soliciting the USB portion of the prize money ($50) beginning with the September meeting. Thomas Creek Brewery has agreed to match that amount with $50 in homebrewing supplies.

After one month of nominations (presumably after most of the nominations are already in), the Chair will choose two more US Brewtopians to serve with him as the Selection Committee. Nominations can continue to be accepted, but Selection Committee members cannot be a candidate for the Award.

The Selection Committee will select the Award winner:

The USBY Award is based on a)meritorious contribution to the club, and b)representation of club values. THE USBY Award is not inherently a ?best brewer in the club? Award.

The Selection Committee will strive to determine the Award winner by consensus.

The Selection Committee may choose not to make the Award in a given year (i.e. just because the Award exists does not mandate that it must be given).

The Selection Committee may choose not to give the Award if the Grand Poobah was unable to raise the USB portion of the prize money.

The Award winner will be announced at the November meeting, which is historically held at Thomas Creek Brewery.

Who shall the selection committee consist of? I can see nominees having to possibly be on the committee. Id say this should not happen for a few obvious reasons that don't need to be mentioned. Maybe we can determine the selection committee AFTER the deadline for nominations. Then the off going BOY (Me :D ) can head up and appoint a selection committee consisting of LBG members that did not get a nomination. This way the nominees will have some type of element of surprise in a fair manner......Thoughts?

Has anyone put any thought into this yet? Are we going to vote during the meeting? If so, how?

What's up? I'm game for a blind Web voting system.

Anyone got any suggestions? New members, you can speak up too. If you've been to a meeting, you know how shy we all are.

Open up! Participate! Go Vote!
Thanks!
