co2 alternative

#1 Post by Jensen » Thu Dec 04, 2008 1:31 am

I went to Paxair (formerly Kirks Welding) to get some propane and co2 bottles filled. I also wanted to get a 2 1/2lb mini co2 filled. I was told they would have to send it to their Lenexa facility (where all their co2 is filled) and that it would take at least two weeks. AND, he could not guarantee that it would make it back to Lawrence because of its odd, and small, size. He was afraid it would get lost in the shufffle... He suggested I take it there personally and get it filled, thus assuring it would not get lost in the mix.

I told him I don't get to KC that much, and he suggested Drop Zone paint ball supplies, on 23rd st, as a possibility. They fill any size co2 up to 5lbs with pure co2. It cost a bit more than Paxair (a 5lb $20 vs $13.75, my little one $10), but for extended hours including Saturdays, odd ball size co2 containers (and they have quite an array there), or you have that sparkling new bottle that you aren't desperate enough to exchange for a cruddy one quite yet-- then this type of place may be the answer.

Just a note, in case anyone is ever in a pinch. We have the same set up at home as Dropzone has for filling co2 tanks. Our sons are avid paintballers and keep a 50lb co2 tank with the fill station and scales up and running in the basement. Nick only charges a buck or two over what the co2 costs him, just to keep it replenished. I am sure he would be willing to do this for guild members in a pinch.

Wow very cool Melissa! Lets talk next time we see each other. I'd like to know the equipment he uses to accomplish this, cost, and maybe a pic or two on your phone. I do this stuff with our mini scuba spare airs, but air is another ball of wax compared to co2.
