anywhere local to get reasonably priced Corny kegs?
Is there anywhere local to get reasonably priced Corny kegs? Going to be kegging for the first time and will have CO2 tank/regulator/tubes shortly, just need some kegs. Would rather buy local than have them shipped...
Re: anywhere local to get reasonably priced Corny kegs?
great question.
Why can't we get direct them from the soda distributors?

Well, I don't know where locally to get just corny keg. But, you can buy corny kegs filled with beer from Free State for I think around $70 total. You can keep the keg. You can also swap out corny kegs for refills for cheaper. It's been awhile, but I seem remember the keg working about to around $30, and I think the refills are normally $40-$50. Those prices are from memory about a year ago. Something to look into, at least.

There really isn't anywhere local you can get them cheaply. B&B has them used but not refurbed for $35+tax.
In the past I have ordered from both of these companies;

The guild has in bought kegs for the members at cost as part of a bulk buy, either from ebay or a there are a couple of sources in Iowa.
For the guild to buy a bulk, someone needs to find them, organize it, track who orders what, and get the money back in the treasury in short order. Usually a bulk buy is minimum of 25 kegs (but we've ordered up to 100). You will get a keg that needs to be rebuilt, and will smell like pop (or worse) until you clean it with PBW or something similar.

This is a very quick way to annoy Free State (and any other brewery). They don't like hunting down kegs any more than we do... Even if you give them full value for the keg. They can't sell beer they can't package, because they are waiting for a keg on order to replace one that didn't come back.mpeck wrote:Well, I don't know where locally to get just corny keg. With shipping this works out to about $27 per corny with shipping. How many kegs are you looking to buy?
I have all the o-rings at hand to rebuild a keg since I buy them in bulk from McMaster.
Have Fun!

That's very possibly true. However, we had several phone conversations with the people at Free State. They said that we weren't paying a deposit on the keg, but that we were buying a keg from them. They said that we didn't have to return it. We wanted a second keg, that honestly most of the time has Free State in it. So, based on what they told us, and that fact, I don't feel bad about having that second keg.
But, maybe I misunderstood what they told us when we asked about it. Just sharing my experience.

I was just looking to buy 2 for now. There's a guy at homebrewtalk.com forums selling for $25 each + shipping. Thanks for the other links guys, I'll check them out.
