Beer to Yeast

#1 Post by klickcue » Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:09 pm

Nice little recipe to grow up yeast for stock or to pitch into a higher gravity beer. Cheap by the way we buy things, ~$12.00 per batch (6 gallon).

When growing up yeast, make a beer - Blond Ale, Pils, Cream Ale ... and have a beer when you are done. :bounce: Great for company that is just getting started or the other half that doesn't like an IPA

This batch yielded just under 300 ml of slurry.

This was 1 package of Wyeast grown up in 2 quarts of starter wort. The beer was fermented at 60 oF

Style: German Pilsner (Pils)
Batch Size: 6.00 gal
Boil Volume: 7.00 gal
Boil Time: 90 min

11 lbs Pilsner (2 Row) Ger Best (2.0 SRM) Grain 100.00 %
2.00 oz Hallertauer [3.00 %] (60 min) Hops 22.4 IBU
1.00 oz Saaz [4.10 %] (15 min) Hops 4.1 IBU
1 Pkgs European Lager II - PC - SLANT (Wyeast Labs #2247 - 940) Yeast-Lager

Mash 150 oF for 75 minutes

~4.5 - 5 % ABV
Have Fun!

Chris
