Just kidding

This is 23rd Street Brewery of course. I was curious though, is the large hopper looking vessel in the middle (with the 23rd Street Logo on it) the mash tun? If so, why are not more home brewing mash tuns designed like this? Is this a 2 stories in the air gravity thing?

That is a neat looking picture, you need to talk to Jason to find out how to make your pictures bigger!

Actually, it was bigger. I reduced down thinking of posting size before I realized that people post linked photos. Perhaps I should modify my linked pic.

Thats the grist bin which is suspended over the MT. It holds the freshly milled malt then the malt is delivered into the MT from the top.
Just call me Andy!
Lupulin Threshold Shift
lupulin threshold shift \lu·pu·lin thresh·old shift\ n
1. When a once extraordinarily hoppy beer now seems pedestrian.
2. The phenomenon a person has when craving more bitterness in beer.
3. The long-term exposure to extremely hoppy beers; if excessive or prolonged, a habitual dependence on hops will occur.
4. When a "Double IPA" just is not enough

Thanks Andy. That makes sense. Sorry for questions about commercial brewing setups, I am just always curious how much home brewing rigs rival commerical operations or if they ever do. I have been thinking of making a change with my current MT setup which is a 5 gallon igloo cooler (cylindrical) with a simple stainless braid. I have been reading some comparisons of false bottoms vs. things like the bazooka tubes (many postings from this forum as a matter of fact). And of course reading a lot to better understand techniques of lautering and getting my head around efficiency and such.
