Looking for a new mill

#1 Post by mcole » Sat Aug 19, 2006 10:43 am

I am wanting to buy a new mill but am wanting something adjustable that I can use for grain for brewing, but could adjust to flour consistency since I grind my grain for bread. Has anyone ever seen anthing like this? Most of the flour mills only grind to flour. I know it would be an investment but if I could kill two birds with one stone that would be great.

Send me your links, ideas whatever. My arm is dying from this old Corona.

What do you think

Hey what do you think about something like this.

The stones are supposed to be adjustable. I really need some feedback from the beer grain grinding guys. I am good on knowing about the flour side.

What are the problems of it being to fine, if the mill is not as adjustable as one would want.

Help?

Bill and I asked a bunch of questions about mills. The link above goes to that discussion.

From what I have read; I haven't see any mills that do well combining milling for beer and milling for bread.

Hope you find something. It makes sense to me. Many people I know who are bakers are also brewers. Like, uhm, Monks. ;)

THanks for the info. I wonder what the problems would be. Grinding to fine? No adjustable enough. Cleaning? I am using organic flour so I would have to clean it to the max to keep away weevels and such. Would the motor not be big enough to grind 20+ lbs of grain. I have been using the corona for both but my arm is dying. I hooked up the drill and burned it up so back to hand grinding. Hopefully there is someone else out there that does both.

How fine is fine? My maltmill has a pretty fine adjustment capability.

I guess I am looking from cracked to flour. My corona mill grinds the grain more than other people would like, but it works for us. Yet it doesnt grind grain fine enough for a smooth bread, say cinnamon rolls. I really wish I could find something to do both. Not only just for my budgets sake but I am short of room. Still have my eye on a couple of these like the one I linked above. Worst case, I still use the corona for brewing but have the other for flour.

I know of an idividual that can make you the mill if you want to have such a mill custom made. He looked at my triple roller C&S and said no problem...The only thing different that you would need is a larger adjustable bearing and I don't see why that would be a problem. If you haven't purchased yet I can try and get you in touch if you want.
