forgot to add irish moss

#1 Post by Bill » Tue Feb 06, 2007 11:18 pm

so, I found reason #431 to not get loaded when doing a brew; I forgot to add the irish moss. Can I add some of the moss to some boiling water and add it to the secondary (once it cools of course)? I also found some Knox gelatin and I've read where a guy adds the Knox in secondary as is... no water, no re-hydration, he just dumps it into secondary.

Can I do either of these in secondary to try and get the cloud out of my brew? Any suggested methods, preferably tested methods :D
Thanks!

At this stage I would not worry about anything Bill. You'll be surprised what will happen with some time in the secondary. If clarification additions are a must look in to isinglass or other fining's that are made for the secondary.

LOL Gordo....

I think I'll probably dump a pack of Knox gelatin in it when I get it off the yeast cake. It?s in the fridge now chilling down to ~40? to see what I can knock out of suspension. It?s pretty cloudy right now and since this is my first batch in a few months and I've done some tweaking to my system, I want to see what I can get out of it.
My next addition will be to start aerating my wort w/ an aeration stone and in-line filter using a 125gal fish tank pump (yes, it's new).
Thanks!
