Hey Joe, rumor has it you and Nate were going to mash in a pumpkin. Has that happened yet? If so how did it go?

We have mashed in a pumpkin. Fermented in another pumpkin. Racked the pumpkin fermented beer last night, it is a bit funky. We will get pictures together and post the whole story soon.

I don't know how smart this is, but if it turns out, it would be a very cool way to brew a pumpkin ale - *in* a pumpkin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cog_nate/s ... 400060222/

Very original concept... at least I have never seen it before. I am looking forward to your report on how it turned out.

Warm Regards,
Dave

A couple of people have asked me how it turned out. The answer is, I don't know. I was not the one who brewed the beer in a pumpkin. I just came across a link to the flikr page of the guy who did, and forwarded it to the list, because I thought you'd find it interesting. I don't even know him. I guess I wasn't clear enough about that.

He added some more pix over the weekend. It apparently didn't kill him, at least. No report on how it tasted, though. If you want to know more, you'll have to ask him.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

Chris

Chris!
That looks very cool!

If it turns out (or not) can you send a link to more pics of the beer clearing and finished product and your description of the brew? We may like to try it with our club or me personally and I was thinking of the same thing but perhaps just serving out of a pumpkin. I would be curious to see if you had any infection problems. Although I guess you shouldn't because the pumpkin should be sanitary inside.

Nice work,

You guys are famous.

How'd the beer taste?
