SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER
Julia Herz, Executive Director of the American Homebrewing Association spoke to LBG members via video conference call from Chicago, Illinois. Julia started homebrewing in her 20's, then began travelling across the country, stopping and staying in Colorado. The AHA is based out of Lyons, Colorado and produces Zymurgy Magazine, runs the National Homebrew Competition (this year they are being held at 7 different locations, as opposed to 9 last year), and offers insurance for homebrew clubs (LBG has insurance through the AHA).
The AHA is leaving the National Homebrewers Association to better represent homebrew clubs only in a strategic fashion. There are over 1700 homebrew clubs in the United States. There are over 23,000 members of the AHA. Julie feels strongly that homebrewers should support local homebrew supply shops, she believes that competitions are important to help homebrewing thrive (the AHA help start the BJCP certified judge program), and she feels that homebrewers can support local malt and hop companies to help the culture.
SEMINAR AND TASTING
Jarrod and Josh had anniversary beers from Alma Mader Brewing in Kansas City, MO.
